About us

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Our vision is to be an excellent provider of integrated acute care services. Our values guide us:

Respectful - treating others as we would wish to be treated

Caring – always putting patients first

Responsible - doing what we say we're going to do

Committed - striving to be the best

In October 2019, the Government announced that we are to receive funding to rebuild a new hospital in Harlow for our patients, community and people.

The details around the funding and the timeframe are currently being finalised and we are completing our business case for the new hospital. We are continuing to develop the essential business case plans to take this amazing change forward.

Why Work With Us?

The hospital delivers services from a number of sites in or around Harlow and is the natural hospital of choice for people living in West Essex and East Hertfordshire.  Harlow has excellent transport links, with the M11 and a frequent train line linking the town to both London and Cambridge.

Harlow is only 15 minutes away from Stansted airport, has good leisure, education and shopping facilities, plenty of green space criss-crossed with a network of award winning cycle-ways and relatively affordable housing close to the hospital.

PAHT is one of only six hospital trusts nationally to be awarded funding to build a fabulous new hospital for our local people that will deliver first class services and patient care to our growing local population for many years to come.

We are committed to developing our staff so there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your career and seek an internal promotion or develop a longer-term career pathway.

As well as doctors and nurses, we employ people in a wide range of healthcare careers based in our hospital settings and working in the community, as well as a range of support services such as administration, finance, HR and IT.

We are an employer offering a huge range of exciting and challenging opportunities for people who are passionate about making a difference to patient healthcare. With more than 300 different careers on offer, there is a job for you no matter what your interests, skills or qualifications.

The Trust cares deeply about ensuring our staff are highly trained and have access to both academic and personal development opportunities and is continually working to expand the training and education portfolio, supporting staff to grow and develop in their roles.

Apprenticeships

PAHT has a proven record of giving local people opportunities to get a foot on the NHS ladder. We are developing this even further with our apprenticeship initiative, starting on your journey with an apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent position, achieve the Care Certificate on the way and choose to continue to develop and work your way up through to a Foundation Degree or Diploma, and then on to a full degree and beyond.

We have a well-established work experience programme which although currently paused due to Covid-19, when the programme reopens placements will be available in the following areas:

Students aged fourteen and over can apply for placements of up to one week in a range of areas such as a General Ward, Ophthalmology, Central Sterile Services or Medical Administration.
