Overview

Join the Battelle team and start solving the world’s most pressing challenges.

Battelle's vision is to be a major force in science and technology discovery and in the translation of knowledge into innovative applications that have significant societal and economic impacts.

Steel industrialist Gordon Battelle provided for the Battelle Memorial Institute in his 1923 last will and testament after a career devoted to the idea that science and research can solve problems in business and society as a whole. His vision became our mission when we opened our doors six years later.

Translate scientific discovery and technology advances into societal benefits.

Battelle Crop Protection Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of Battelle Memorial Institute and is comprised of approximately 100 scientists. From our modern state of the art laboratory facilities in Chelmsford, Essex and Havant, Hampshire we offer customers in the agrochemical and associated industries the opportunity to outsource the conduct of studies required to optimise the development of their products.

Apprenticeship, graduate and work experience programmes

Battelle is dedicated to education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Battelle’s mission is as relevant as ever, we solve global challenges through contract research, lab management, STEM education, philanthropy and volunteerism.

Our industrial placement programs in the UK aim to give students that glimpse of what a career in a scientific field is like, our placements focus on allowing students to develop their analytical skills in many areas, from developing general bench chemistry skills in a GLP regulated environment through to developing, troubleshooting and validating their own methods on complex analytical instruments. We aim to guide and develop students to understand the tasks they are performing and the technology and mechanisms behind the analytical processes.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my year with Battelle UK, working on challenging studies that often require a large amount of problem solving and troubleshooting. Combining this with the high levels of expertise here at Battelle, this has broadened my knowledge and understanding of applied ‘real world’ chemistry and has given me an increased confidence in my practical ability, which will be hugely valuable heading into my final year of university.

Residue Analysis Placement Student

What makes Battelle’s placement stand out from other years in industry is the frequent one-to-one training you will receive, I have received personal training form trained professionals on chromatography, mass spectrometry, analytical software and scientific troubleshooting, which was made even more invaluable as Battelle ensure what you get out of training is the focus.
